From time to time I like to share my new obsessions with you because I know you all enjoy it sooo much! And since I'm currently indulging in this delicious goodness....what's a better time to write about it.
My latest flavor of the month (literally) is the Kellogg's Dark Chocolate Almond Fiber Plus Bars. I was at the Fitness and Nutrition Seminar at my church a couple weekends ago and I was talking to one of the doctors who serves on the health ministry that I also serve on. She's a GI doc and we were talking about how little fiber we actually take in as adults. Sans any fiber supplements, we actually don't get very much- maybe a gram here or there- from our regular diets. Fiber is important because it helps us stay-regggala (don't think too hard, just pronounce phonetically). It aids in digestion. It works by absorbing the water throughout the digestive system to make life a little "easier" for us. In addition, part of it is fermented (yes that produces gas) but it also creates some byproducts that help break down the other foods that we eat.
So after my little convo with Dr. Melanie....I decided to give fiber a try. I'd seen those fiber one commercials. And honestly the reason I chose the Kellogg's was because it was the cheaper of the brands on the shelf (minus the store brand) and they ALL had the same fiber content. I took one for breakfast on last Monday. Now remember what I said about what fiber produces....so yeah as my body got adjusted to the increase in fiber intake...there was a lot of moving and shaking going on. BUT by the end of the week all of that had calmed down substantially. And now that I'm on week 2, I think I may increase the intake to a bar and a half a day. Partially because they are good for you but more because they taste so.frikin.good.
Give'em a try. I found that they are cheaper at Target. And if you are some weirdo from planet strange morally opposed to all that almondy-chocolatey goodness...they have fruit and oat flavors too!
Happy digesting!
