Vulnerability

I almost feel that it's a common misconception that women don't have egos when it comes to relationships. Women are assumed to be the sensitive ones that are all about the romance of love (the lovey-dovey of it all). But the truth is...women have a bit of an ego and a little pride too when it comes to relationships. Just as guys don't want to make a move for fear of rejection, ladies get that feeling too. It takes a lot of put yourself out there and really appear vulnerable. I think this is especially tricky for single and successful brown girls. Because Amerika views us in so many ways (confident, bold, and on top of everything) it can be hard to allow yourself to be vulnerable and open yourself up. So there's got to be a compromise, I suppose. To some degree you have to be willing to put yourself out there to get what you want. After all, we do it in other areas of our lives without hesitation. But then there's the aspect of being prepared for what may come. By nature, humans like to be in control of situations. The reality is that we actually can't be in control of EVERY situation...so there's a fine line to negotiate between being prepared (to some degree) for various outcomes and not over-analyzing or thinking the situation...
